Unleashing Love and Joy
Wedding Dogs At Abernethy Center
At Abernethy, we understand that pets are an important part of the family, and many couples want to include their beloved fur babies in the big day. As animal lovers and pet parents ourselves, the Abernethy team gets it!! We are committed to creating personalized and memorable weddings that celebrate all the love in your life, including four-legged friends.
In this blog, we’ll explore the adorable ways couples can include their pet in an Abernethy wedding, making it a truly unforgettable experience.
1. Including your dog In The Ceremony
If your pup is well-behaved and comfortable with crowds, they are more than welcome to walk down the aisle during your ceremony.
Picture the joy on your guests’ faces as your furry friend proudly struts their stuff in a stylish bowtie or a flower crown. It’s a heartwarming and memorable moment representing the bond between you, your partner, and your beloved companion.
Here’s how to make it happen:
Pup of Honor: Make your furry friend the “Pup of Honor” and let them walk down the aisle with a designated escort. Outfit them in a stylish ensemble that matches the wedding colors or theme. This adorable addition will bring smiles and laughter to your guests and create unforgettable memories.
Ring Bearer: Entrust your pet with the important task of being the ring bearer. Attach a small pouch or pillow to their collar with the rings (or faux rings) securely fastened, and watch as they joyfully make their way down the aisle, capturing hearts along the way.

PRO TIP: Just as you consider your guests’ experience, remember to plan for your pet’s experience at the wedding. We recommend bringing a kennel or safe space to stay in one of the suites if they get overwhelmed and have someone assigned to their care. We kindly ask dogs be taken home after the ceremony since pets at the reception can interfere with food service guidelines.
2. Just For Pics
If your pet isn’t suited for a role during the ceremony, you can still include them by capturing precious moments in a pre-ceremony photoshoot.
Follow these steps to create lasting memories:
- Have someone bring your pet to the venue during pre-ceremony photo time for a few memorable shots in Abernethy’s scenic venues.
- Coordinate with your photographer to capture candid and heartwarming moments with your pet.
- Incorporate props and accessories that reflect your pet’s personality or relate to the wedding theme. This will add a personalized touch to your photos.

PRO TIP: Looking for wedding day pet transportation and care? Wags & Garlands can be your dog’s plus one, providing care and transportation so friends and family don’t have to worry about doggy duty.
3. Pet Inspired Touches
And why stop there? Consider naming a signature cocktail after your four-legged companion. Your guests will love the thoughtfulness and creativity behind it, and it will surely be a hit at the reception.

PRO TIP: Search Etsy for an artist to create a caricature of your pet for signage, favor packages, or whatever you want! If your dog will be in photos, don’t forget to ask your florist to make a garland or flower crown to adorn your pup in the wedding colors!
